The Fall Semester 2025 is upon us. This is the right time for students to start looking for a reliable essay writing service that does not use AI. It is easier said than done though. These days, thanks to ChatGPT and similar AI tools, anyone with zero subject knowledge and questionable English skills can start an essay writing business. However, as a university student, you do not want to risk paying to such services that submit AI generated content to their clients. Most universities have strict policy against AI usage and will flag you for plagiarism or even worse, expel you for using AI tools, as this University of Minnesota student recently found out.
So, what should you do to find that reliable essay writing service that does not use AI? We talked to Dr. Robert Lawson, a former teaching assistant at Trinity University who has over 20 years of teaching experience. As part of his job, he has evaluated countless student essays and has noticed a few trends since ChatGPT came into the picture in 2020. He was kind enough to share his insights with us in a freewheeling conversation. This post is an edited transcript of our conversation with Dr. Lawson and covers tips for students looking to find a reliable essay writing partner to handle their discussion posts, quizzes, essays, and theses.

1. Always check the website content for AI usage
I have spoken to many students who turned in AI-generated essays in my class. Some of them revealed the names of the website they used in the hope of avoiding a disciplinary action. The university’s Academic Honor Council maintains a list of such websites. I went through these websites and something struck me as peculiar. All of the websites had their own website content written by AI. It was not hard to identify even without using an AI detector. AI writing is overly generic, cliché-heavy, or oddly “balanced” without nuanced analysis. As a teaching assistant, I could immediately tell that these websites used AI content for their website pages as well. These websites cannot be bothered to spend on a real writer to write their website pages. Or, they are plain afraid that they will be caught using bad grammar. It is not surprising that these websites turn in AI generated papers for their clients too. Such websites often appear at the top of Google rankings. So, it is clear that they spend more on promotion than hiring real, qualified writers. Gullible students take their bait and end up paying with their careers.
So, what should you be your first step? Always check the website content for AI usage. Even if you cannot tell human-written content from AI-generated content, you can always rely on a third-party AI detection service like ZeroGPT. If a website is using AI for its website content, you can be reasonably sure that they will use AI on their orders too. So, the number one rule&am</strong>p;amp;amp;amp;lt;/strong> to identify a reliable essay writing service is to find a website that uses human-written content on their website.
2. Ask for a “Live Interaction” with the support staff
When I speak to who have fallen victims to scam websites submitting AI content, they admit that they did not do their due diligence. Many of them did not even do a live interaction with a human agent. They had assumed that ordering an essay or quiz will be like ordering goods from Amazon, where you just place items in a cart and make the payment. However, essay writing is a custom product, not a standardized product that Amazon sells. When you visit a doctor or call an electrician, you talk to a human about the problem, don’t you? I can understand that some students were not willing to do a live interaction as they did not want to accidentally reveal their personal information. However, for most of them, it was pure laziness on their part.
If you apply common sense, you can eliminate a lot of dodgy essay writing services by doing a live interaction with their support staff. If a website only offers AI chatbots or automated email replies for support, look the other way. Most reliable essay writing services will gladly offer a free consultation via WhatsApp or Live Chat to better understand your requirements. This not only shows that they care about the requirements, but also gives you a chance to evaluate their English skills. If something seems off during conversation, you can always back out and look for another website. Better to be safe than sorry!

3. If it is too cheap, look the other way
This tip holds true not just for essay writing services, but for buying anything in general. If a website offers you ‘too good to be true’ prices, you know where they will cut the costs: its writers. Websites that charge too low hire shitty writers, it is as simple as that. This does not need to be told, but unfortunately here I am telling you this. In my conversations with students, many of them admitted that they hired the cheapest service and did not pay attention to their policies or service guarantees. No wonder they ended up in so much trouble.
Many of you might be wondering: what is too cheap for an essay writing service? My guess is anything below $10 a page. My reason is simple if you find someone who is writing for below that amount, he/she is not qualified enough to land another job. Remember that the website has to make a profit on your order too. So, if you are paying only $5 to $10 a page, you are effectively paying the writer only half that amount. Go figure what kind of writers can they attract within that budget.
4. Request for a short, paid test task
Another common mistake made by students is that they start looking for an essay writing service at the last minute. They are in a haste and order their whole bunch of essays and assignments together. They do not leave themselves with enough time to request for a short, paid test task first. If you follow this simple precaution, you can easily separate wheat from the chaff. When you order a short task first, you can test the website not only for their AI usage, but also for their professionalism, turnaround time, after sales support on revisions, etc.
All you have to do is find a small task, such as a discussion post or a short essay with a relatively long deadline, and order it first. Give the website a relatively short turnaround time so even if they fumble or fail to submit, you still have enough time to find a backup or do it yourself. Also, you do not want to hand in an untested paper directly to Turnitin. So, once you receive the submission, review the test task carefully and run it through an AI detector like ZeroGPT. If the submission passes all your criteria, you can proceed to give a larger order to the website.
5. Check for website’s AI policy
Last, but not the least, you must look for the website’s policy on AI usage. I have seen many websites claiming that they offer a full refund if their content is found to be AI generated. However, when I read the fine print, it becomes evident that these claims are highly exaggerated. They place so many conditions around the refund that it is practically impossible for a student to claim a refund if their essay turns out to be AI generated.
What you need is a clear and consistent policy on plagiarism and AI generated content. There are many websites that offer proof of originality such as a free originality report. So, do not just look for tall claims, always read the fine print. Look for how they test for AI before submission and what guarantees they offer should their content be found plagiarized or AI generated. Do not settle for anything but a refund as you have paid for a human to write your content, not AI.
